About JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test)

@

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is held both in and out of Japan  to evaluate and certify the proficiency in Japanese of non-native speakers. It is held only once a year on the first Sunday in December. There are four different levels: 1‹‰(ikkyuu) to 4‹‰(yonkyuu). The passing score is set at 70% for Level 1 and 60% for Levels 2, 3, and 4. Each test is comprised of three sections: writing and vocabulary; listening; reading and grammar. Note that there is no speaking section. And "writing section" actually means to test your recognition of kana and kanji, and there is nothing you have to write. It is all multiple-choice test.

Here is the guideline for 2005 test. http://www.jees.or.jp/jlpt/en/jlpt_guide.html
